ΚΑΤΗΓΟΡΙΑ

THE GOVERNOR (KAPODISTRIAS)

The film THE GOVERNOR is the story of the greatest Greek politician. With Cypriot ancestry from his mother’s side, he started out from the Greek island of Corfu at the beginning of the 19th century and advanced rapidly to the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia. With the support of Czar Alexander the I, he contributed to the independence of Switzerland and Greece and prevented European powers from dismantling France following Napoleon’s defeat. His liberal views bring him in opposition to his sworn enemy, Chancellor of Austria, Metternich.

After the liberation of Greece from the Ottoman Empire, he is elected as the country’s first Governor.

Staying true to his values, he stoically faces persecution in Europe and Greece, defending the right to freedom for all with bravery, kindness and dignity. Subsequently, he also sacrifices his undying love for Roksandra Stourtza, to implement their shared vision for Freedom, Education and Culture.

The life of Ioannis Kapodistrias is a story of love, faith and struggle of one visionary democrat who in conservative times managed to overcome the hardships and barbarity of his era, paying his love for his country with his life.
